Indigenous Awareness Weeks 2024: September 19 – October 2

The Office of Indigenous Initiatives at Æ»¹ûÒùÔº presents the 13th annual Indigenous Awareness Weeks.

Indigenous Awareness Weeks is a two-week series of events involving Indigenous academics, artists, and community members, hosted by the Office of Indigenous Initiatives. Its goal is to encourage a greater understanding of Indigenous peoples among students, staff, and faculty at Æ»¹ûÒùÔº, as well as in the broader Montreal and Quebec communities. The Office of Indigenous Initiatives also helps foster discussion among First Nations, Métis and Inuit on topics that are important to individuals and their communities. The events outlined below create a space that brings together Indigenous experts and community leaders as well as Æ»¹ûÒùÔº students, faculty, and staff.

Events open to the public

Sept. 19 and 26, 2024 (11 a.m. – 5 p.m.)

  • Indigenous artisans and artists present -ÌýÆ»¹ûÒùԺ’s farmer’s marker on McTavish Street

Sept. 20, 2024 (11:30 a.m. – 5 p.m.):

  • Æ»¹ûÒùԺ’s Annual PowWow - , 475 Pine Avenue West, Montreal, QC, H2W 1S4

Sept. 30, 2024: National Day of Truth and Reconciliation

  • We Will Walk Together,Ìýhosted by the Faculty of Education -Ìý, 3700 McTavish St, Montreal, Quebec H3A 1Y2, Canada

These events are open to a maximum of 15 Indigenous students only per workshop session.

Workshop 1 (10:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m.) Moose Meat Delicacies, Barley soup, and Bannock.

Workshop 2 (3 p.m. - 5 p.m.) - Traditional Gillet Making.
