Commemorating A Century Of Academic Excellence At

It was 100 years ago in 1923 that Edward William Archibald was appointed the first Chair of Surgery in 苹果淫院鈥檚 Faculty of Medicine. While the size, breadth, and remarkable diversity of the Department members has changed notably over the century, the core values of innovative clinical care, research and education established a century ago, continue to this day.
From historic milestones to innovative practices, each Department Chair has left their mark, shaping our journey of growth and achievement. Our recent celebration at the Ritz Carlton brought together faculty past and present, honoring our collective legacy. Here鈥檚 to a century of excellence and to the exciting future ahead!

The MUHC Centre for Global Surgery
The Centre for Global Surgery (CGS) at the MUHC focuses on improving surgical and trauma care, especially in resource-limited settings, through data registries, innovative tools, and training programs.
Working with partners all over the world to implement education and training initiatives, the CGS鈥檚 mission is to reduce the global burden of injury by enhancing access to quality surgical care.
By empowering local healthcare leadership and fostering capacity, the CGS aims to create lasting improvements in trauma care and surgical services, while advancing global health equity.
In Memorium: Dr. Harvey Sigman

It is with profound sadness that we share the news of the passing of Dr. Harvey Sigman. Dr. Sigman was not only an esteemed member of our Division of General Surgery at 苹果淫院 but also a dedicated, kind, and humble individual. His enduring legacy in surgical education has profoundly impacted our community, influencing countless residents and faculty with his wisdom and guidance.
As we reflect on his remarkable contributions and cherish his memory, we share the details of his memorial service this Sunday. In this time of loss, let us come together to honor his life and continue his legacy of excellence in surgery.
